1. What are the differences between Connected and Unconnected Lookup?

Ans:  Connected lookup: Connected lookup take part in dataflow and receives input directly from the pipeline.  It can use both dynamic and static cache.  Connected lookup can return more than one column value (output port ). Connected lookup caches all lookup columns.  Supports user-defined default values.
Unconnected lookup:  It  receives input values from the result of a LKP: expression in another transformation.  Unconnected Lookup cache can NOT be dynamic.  It can return only one column value i.e. output port.  Does not support user defined default values.

2. What are the characteristics of  Complex Mapping?

Ans:  Characteristics:
  • Complicated requirement
  • More no. of transformations
  • Having complex business logic
  • May require combination of two or more methods
  • Complex business logic
  • More than 30 unconnected lookup

3. What is Data warehouse?

Ans: "A Data warehouse is a subject oriented, included, time variant, non random collection of data in support of management's decision making process".

4. Define look up function?

Ans: The lookup function is used to compare source data with another table based on a convinced condition. If the condition is true, than the lookup function returns columns that satisfy condition.

5.  What is the difference between stop and abort options in workflow monitor?

Ans: Stop waits for all running objects to complete and then finish the process however abort stops the entire object running immediately.

6.  Write the types of data warehouses?

Ans: There are three types of data warehouses
  • Enterprise Data Warehouse
  • ODS (operational data store)
  • Data Mart

7.  What is Data mart?

Ans:  A data mart is a subset of data warehouse that is intended for a particular line of business, such as sales, marketing, or finance. In a dependent data mart, data can be resulting from an enterprise wide data warehouse.

8.  Define Data Transformation Manager (DTM)?

Ans: After the load manager performs validations for the session, it creates the DTM process. The DTM process is the second process associated with the session run.

9.  Write about types of dimensions available in informatica?

Ans: There are three types of dimensions.
  • Star schema
  • Snowflake schema
  • Galaxy Schema

10.  Explain about snow flake schema?

Ans: A Snowflake schema is nothing but one Fact table which is associated to a number of dimension tables, the snowflake and star schema are the process of storing data which are multidimensional in nature.
